If you aim to work, study, or migrate to a country where English is the primary language, the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) can assist you. This includes nations such as the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. The test assesses your English listening, reading, writing, and speaking abilities and is scored on a scale from 1 to 9. IELTS is jointly owned by IDP: IELTS Australia, Cambridge Assessment English, and the British Council.
The higher your IELTS score, the more proficient you are in using English for communication. IELTS score requirements differ depending on the immigration authority, university, employer, or institution. The score you need will depend on your goals in the destination country, such as employment or education.
There are no specific eligibility criteria for the IELTS exam. However, candidates must be at least 16 years old to take the test.
IELTS is divided into two types: General Training and Academic. The General Training IELTS is designed for individuals who want to work and live in another country, while the Academic IELTS is intended for students who wish to pursue master's degrees at universities worldwide.
International students appearing for the IELTS exam are required to have a valid passport. A passport serves as the primary form of identification during registration, and the unique passport ID is used for this purpose. On the test day, students must bring the original copy of their valid passport. The same ID used during registration must be presented on the exam day. Additionally, students under 18 must provide a 'consent form for minors' before taking the test.
Paper-Based Test: Candidates taking the Paper-Based Test will complete the Listening, Reading, and Writing sections on paper, while the Speaking test will be conducted face-to-face with an IELTS examiner..
Computer-Based Test: Candidates taking the Computer-Based Test will complete the Listening, Reading, and Writing sections on a computer. However, similar to the Paper-Based Test, the Speaking test will be conducted face-to-face with an IELTS examiner.
There are no educational prerequisites to take the IELTS exam.
The registration fee for the IELTS exam is 17,000/-. This fee applies equally to paper-based and computer-based tests, as well as for both Academic and General IELTS.
